A joint venture between Unite and the Durham Miners Association will see a new Community Centre opening in Durham. We would like to invite as many of you as possible to come down and see all of the fantastic features that the centre offers and how you can become involved.
Grand Opening 15th of November 2 p.m.
There will be an opening event at the Miners’ Hall in Durham to allow individuals and organisations who have an interest in the centre to come along and hear what will be on offer. The centre will open to provide advice from Wednesday 20th November.
The community centre offers help and support for individuals and for the community as a whole. The centre will allow people to:
• Learn new skills
• Gain support with welfare problems
• Campaign on welfare changes
• Gain community activist training
• Get involved with your local community
• Receive help and support in looking for work
With devastating cuts coming into effect such as the Bedroom Tax, housing benefit cuts and ATOS to name a few, the centre will introduce Benefit Buddying. This feature will offer peer-to-peer support for the many people who will suffer as a result of the cuts and who have difficulties with benefit claims.
To find out how the new community centre can help you, or to see how you can become involved with the community and campaigning, pop down to the centre on the 15th of November from 2pm.
We look forward to seeing you there!
