As last year, the TUC has been asked by the DMA to identify and organise field stewards for the 131st Durham Miners Gala which takes place on Saturday 11th July. To that end it would be greatly appreciated if your union could identify volunteers to assist with the stewarding. This year we are asking that stewards commit to a morning, midday or afternoon slot.
The main role of the stewards will be to ensure that the various evacuation points are kept clear at all times. No prior experience of stewarding is necessary as relevant information will be provided and volunteers will be invited to attend a stewards briefing.
Due to the increasing demands being placed on the DMA a minimum of 40 stewards are required and the earlier we can identify stewards the better. It would therefore be appreciated if you could give this matter some priority in raising this request through your networks.
Without the support of unions and volunteers the Gala could not take place.
If you are able to assist, please provide the following details to Melanie Lowden, firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 5th June
Timeslot: 9am-11am. 11am 1pm. 1pm 3pm. Any. (please indicate preference which will be accommodated if possible). Two stewards required per stewarding point.
