Here are some courses that are taking place over the next few months that are being delivered by Jack Drum arts.

Please find below details of our new programme of courses

Everything Craft with Anna Harding
Where – Sure Start Evenwood
When – Mondays, 10am – 12pm 3th April until 18th May
A 5 week arts and crafts course where you will get the opportunity to learn lots of great new skills creating fun things for all the family including papercraft, felting, printing etc.

Fine Art with Jane Crawford
Where – Woodhouse Close Church Community Centre, Woodhouse Close Estate, DL146PD
When – Tuesdays, 6pm until 8pm 14th April until 16th June
This course will introduce learners to a range of new skills within the context of ‘Fine Art’. Includes practical workshops in research, design, drawing skills and painting. On completion of the 8 week course learners will have produced a portfolio of work that will show the different techniques covered, and a number of artwork pieces created using various art mediums; pencil, fine art, pens, paint (watercolour and acrylics), pastels and inks.
NB: Donations of £3 per person are requested towards the cost of materials

Where – The Ferryhill Ladder Centre, 5-7 Coniston Road, Ferryhill, DL17 8EZ
When – Fridays, 10am – 12pm 17th April until 5th June

Growing Together Gardening with Colin Hemingway
Where – Roddymoor Community Allotments
When – Wednesdays, 10am – 3pm 22nd April until 24th June
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain the knowledge and confidence to set up a simple garden plot. You will learn how to prepare the ground, lay paving and build elevated beds to grow and nurture vegetables and flowers. The course will take place at Roddymoor allotments in a supportive and sociable environment, promoting health and wellbeing through the sharing of learning in the outdoors.
NB: Transport and lunch can be provided for those on income support so please enquire for more info

Drama for Families with Jeremy Warr
Where – St Thomas’ Church Hall, Rectory Lane, Wolsingham, DL13 3AG
When – Wednesdays, 7pm – 9pm 22nd April until 10th June
In collaboration with Drama in the Dale
this 8 week course is for people who are new to drama and also for those who have some experience. It is a great way to build your skills and self confidence, meet new people and have lots of fun. Activities will cover key drama skills such as acting, 
improvising, creating characters and storytelling. There will be a chance to try out extracts from some of the great plays that have already been 
written and also to create a short play to be performed at the end of the course.
NB: please note this is a family learning course that requires adults to attend with their children.

Job Hunter’s Toolbox with Laura Emerson & Mike Daynes
Where – Jack Drum Arts, St Cuthbert’s Centre, Church Hill, Crook, DL15 9DN
When – 10am – 4pm 28th April until 29th April
A unique and fun approach to building the confidence, self-esteem and communication skills you need in your toolbox as a job seeker. The course is delivered in a relaxed and informal environment, and covers everything from approaching a potential employer to your first day in a new job.
NB: Transport and lunch can be provided for those on income support so please enquire for more info

Cake Decorating with Nicky Hall Shildon
Where – Alive Project, 9 Church Street, Shildon, DL4 1DS
When – Wednesday 29th April 10.30am – 2.30pm or 4.30pm – 8.30pm
Come along and enjoy making fun cake craft items in our informal and friendly taster session. No prior knowledge necessary. We will be covering icing biscuits and cupcakes, assembling flowers, figures and accessories.

Community Reporting with Sheryl Jenkins
Where – Tudhoe Community Centre, St Davids Close, Tudhoe, DL16 6TA
When – Tuesdays, 10am – 2.30pm (with a 30 minute break for lunch) 5th May until 23rd June
Interested in film, photography, writing, radio or journalism? This course is an exciting opportunity for adults to learn the skills required to become a community reporter. Participants learn how to tell stories that matter whilst learning basic skills in journalism, photography, audio and video production as well as an understanding of the core elements that comprise Community Reporter best practice. Absolutely no experience is necessary just an enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Walking, Talking, Photography with Louise Taylor
Where – Hamsterley Forest
When – Wednesdays, 10am – 12.30pm 6th May until 24th June
Join local photographer Louise Taylor on Wednesday mornings for a ramble around the forest taking photographs and meeting new people whilst getting some gentle exercise. No photography equipment or experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a love of the outdoors.
NB: Parking in the forest costs £4

Homefront with Ellie Langley
Where – St Cuthbert’s Centre, Church Hall, Crook, DL15 9DN
When – Wednesdays, 10am – 2pm 3rd June until 8th July
Working with local artist Ellie Langley you can learn how to design and make your own woollen home accessories. During the course you will work with wool to produce functional and beautiful items for the home including a lampshade. You will be given the opportunity to learn and use both wet and dry feltmaking techniques and learn lots of other skills from Ellie.
NB: Donations of £3 per person are requested towards the cost of materials

All courses are FREE for adults age 19+ although we do request donations for materials on some of the courses.

The programme is delivered by Jack Drum Arts as part of the Durham County Council Adult and Community Learning Programme.
