ATOS demonstrations held across the Country

Unite Community members joined with disability rights activists and campaigns across the country yesterday (19 Nov) to protest against the Government’s disgraceful use of Work Capability Assessments to force people off benefits, and the private firm ATOS which completes the so-called medical examinations on their behalf. The reality for thousands of disabled people is that they are assessed against a tick list whichbears no relation to their prospects of being able to get or hold down a job.

Over a third of all ATOS decisions are overturned on appeal.

There was widespread coverage in the local media – below are a few of the many articles resulting from a fantastic day of protest which saw thousands of activists protest outside ATOS’ 144 offices nationally, and led to the assessment centre’s being colsed for the day.
